I am a fiction and nonfiction writer, creative writing instructor, editor and publisher.
My short stories have appeared in over a dozen literary magazines, several anthologies, and have been honored with a number of magazine awards as well as fellowships from The Somerville, MA Arts Council and The MacDowell Colony.
In 2008 I founded The Review Review, a website dedicated to reviews of literary magazines and interviews with journal editors. The site featured a database of over 1,000 literary magazines and hundreds of articles about lit mag publishing. The Review Review was listed for seven years by Writer's Digest as one of 101 Best Websites for Writers. In 2019 I sold The Review Review to Gonzaga University, where it now operates as a teaching tool for students.
Most recently, I created Lit Mag News, a Substack newsletter that aims to demystify the world of lit mag publishing. The site features a bi-weekly roundup of the latest news in lit mags, a weekly column with contributors from all over the world, dozens of interviews with journal editors, and a wide variety of articles looking at everything from submission practices to publishing ethics, and more. The site is meant to be a helpful and inspiring resource for both writers and editors.
Since 2004 I have taught fiction and nonfiction to kids, teens and adults, both in person and online. I have also spoken about lit mag publishing at MFA programs, literary festivals, conferences and schools throughout the country.
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and now live with my family in Philadelphia, PA.
